  • 01/01/2027 - Preparation for the 2027 Revaluation

Preparation for the 2027 Revaluation is currently underway with every property in Watauga County to be visited by an appraiser.  The field reviews are conducted to ensure the data of the property reflects accurately in the county tax records. As a part of this review, all residential and commercial properties will be digitally photographed to ensure that all improvements can be compared consistently and uniformly, as well as to validate property addresses and locations to assist emergency services. Staff will be driving vehicles with door magnets attached identifying them as Watauga County Appraisal.  Appraisers will be wearing a safety vest and lanyard with a photo ID Badge attached. As part of their appraisal, they will be knocking on doors to advise the owner that they are there and ask a couple of questions. If no one is home, the appraiser will leave a door hanger to let the owner know the property was visited by staff.  Should you have any questions as to the identity of the individual at your home please contact the Tax Office at 828-265-8021.
