Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee – Promotes the interests and well-being of the residents in Adult Care Homes. (1st Monday of each month at 4:00 P.M. Appalachian Brian Estates)
Animal Control Appeals Board – A County Ordinance gives this Board authority to declare an animal to be dangerous or a nuisance, the owner of an animal has the right to appeal this determination, and this Board determines whether to overturn the determination or to uphold it. (Called meetings as necessary to hear appeals – $25/meeting)
Appalcart Board – Sets policy for AppalCart which is the local public transportation system. The Board is the final authority and supervises the director. (4th Monday of each month at 3:00 PM in the AppalCart Board Room)
Blowing Rock Board Of Adjustments Extraterritorial Representation – Acts on issues within Blowing Rock's ETJ area just outside Town limits for variance requests for land use code that has been requested outside the Town limits and within the ETJ area. (Called meetings as necessary and/or needed)
Blowing Rock Rural Fire Protection District Commission – This Board is responsible for overseeing the tax and setting the tax rate on a yearly basis. (Called meetings as needed)
Boone Board Of Adjustment – Reviews zoning appeals from citizens within the jurisdiction of Boone. (Must live in extra–territorial jurisdiction; 1st Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM at Council Chambers)
Boone Planning Board – Develops and recommends policies, ordinances, administrative procedures and other means for carrying out plans in a coordinated and efficient manner within the Town of Boone. (Must live in extra–territorial jurisdiction; 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at Council Chambers)
Boone Rural Fire Protection Service District Board Of Directors – This Board is responsible for overseeing the tax and setting the tax rate on a yearly basis. (Must live in District; Second Thursday of January, April, July, and October at 7:00 PM Boone Fire Station #2)
Caldwell Community College Advisory Committee – To review issues that have to do with the local CCC&TI campus. (Meets as announced by CCC&TI on a quarterly basis usually at Dan’l Boone Inn Restaurant)
Caldwell Community College Board Of Trustees – To make broad policies within which the institution operates. The Board and the President and his staff jointly focus on planning, setting expectations and evaluation. (Meet 3rd Wednesday each month in the Board Room at the CCC&TI Campus in Hudson at 11:30 AM)
Child Fatality Prevention Team And Community Child Protection TEAM – To promote the development of a community-wide approach to child abuse and neglect. (2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 AM in the DSS Conference Room at 132 Poplar Grove Connector, Suite C. One meeting per quarter designated as the Child Fatality Prevention Team Meeting)
Council On The Status Of Women – To facilitate an awareness of the status of women, their plight and potential in the County and to perpetuate a better understanding between sexes in the County. (1st Monday of each month at the Library at 5:15 PM)
Cove Creek Community Council – Initial members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners, then members are elected by the Community to discuss any issues affecting the Cove Creek area planning. (Called meetings as needed)
Cove Creek Fire Protection District Commission – This Board is responsible for overseeing the tax and setting the tax rate on a yearly basis. (Called meetings as needed)
Criminal Justice Partnership Board Establishes and oversees community-based programs that address local criminal justice problems. The purpose is to provide a cost-effective program that provides local judges additional sentencing options for offenders. The Board oversees an intensive outpatient treatment program designed to address problems of substance abuse among offenders and related life skill needs. (Meets quarterly - usually the last Monday of the first month of each quarter (Jan., Apr., Jul., Oct.) at 12:30 PM)
Economic Development Commission – Works to create jobs and increase incomes in Watauga County through entrepreneurial development, business recruitment and assistance to existing business. (Meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Appalachian Enterprise Center Conference Room)
EMS Advisory Council – Acts as advisory board for Emergency Medical Services for the County. (Meets four times a year at various locations)
Foscoe/Grandfather Community Council – Initial members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners, then members are elected by the Community to discuss any issues affecting the Foscoe/Grandfather area planning. (Called meetings as needed)
High Country Council of Governments Workforce Development Board A volunteer policy board of business and community leaders that develops regional workforce development policy and provides direct oversight of the region’s JobLink Career Centers and the Federal Workforce Investment Act. (Meets 2nd Thursday of alternating months at 3:00 PM in Boone)
Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee/Project On Aging Advisory Committee Reviews the County's aging services, recommends funding allocation of Block Grant Funds, and submits a plan with a budget for Board of Commissioners' approval. (Meets at least once a year - as announced)
Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (Jcpc) – Assesses the needs of youth in Watauga County, with attention given to the needs of status offenders on a continuing basis. Assists the County by making recommendations for the use of CBA/JJDP funds. (4th Thursday of each month at 8:00 AM in the DSS Meeting Room)
Library Board – Assists in developing policies for the County Library. (Meets the 1st Thursday of odd numbered months at 1:30 PM at the Watauga County Library)
Watauga Medical Center, Inc., Board Of Trustees Governs the affairs of Watauga Medical Center, Inc., and facilities. (Meets the 4th Thursday of each month at 5:00 PM at Watauga Medical Center)
Motor Vehicle Valuation Review Committee (Mvvrc) – Taxpayers may appeal vehicle values to the Committee after their appeal with the Tax Administrator has been reviewed and if no consensus as to value can be reached. (Called meetings by Tax Administrator)
Northwestern Regional Housing Authority – Multi-County provider and manager for low income housing. (3rd Wed. of each month at 7:30 P.M.)
Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee – Promotes the interests and well-being of the patients in nursing homes and homes for the aged. (Meets once/quarter - Feb., May, Aug., Nov. at 1:00 PM at locations to be determined)
Recreation Commission – Advisory Board to Watauga County Parks and Recreation which supports recreation programs, public parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and other recreation facilities owned or controlled by Watauga County (Meets the 3rd Wednesday of every other month at 7:00 PM)
Region D Certified Development Corporation – A non-profit economic development organization for the seven county area. This corporation can assist eligible small business concerns in developing Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loan packages and in serving as the fiduciary in delivering cash incentives to expanding industries locating within the region. (Called meetings as needed; one annual meeting is required each year)
Rutherwood Community Council – Initial members are appointed by the Board of Commissioners, then members are elected by the Community to discuss any issues affecting the Rutherwood area planning. (Called meetings as needed)
Social Services Board – Serves in an advisory capacity for the Department of Social Services. (Meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Department of Social Service's Small Conference Room; $20/meeting)
Tourism Development Authority – This Board promotes tourism within the Tax District U and administers the appropriation of the room occupancy tax levied by the County. (2nd Tuesday of January, March, May, June, September, November at 8:30 A.M.)
Valle Crucis Community Council – Council to monitor commercial growth and development within the Valle Crucis area. (Called meetings as needed)
Valle Crucis Historic Preservation Commission – Issues certificates of appropriateness for proposed construction and all renovations in the historical district. (1st Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Valle Crucis Methodist Church)
WAMY Community Action Board – 1/3 of the Board are representatives of local governing officials. Members may themselves be representatives of public officials. Members holding these seats are appointed by the BCC except for Avery and Yancey Counties. 1/3 are representatives of private organizations and 1/3 are representatives of low-income residents of the area. (Fourth Tuesday in April, June, Aug. and Oct., the first Tuesday in Feb., and the second Tuesday in Dec. Meetings are held in various counties.)
Watauga County Board Of Adjustment – Considers zoning variances, conditional use permits and zoning appeals. (Called meetings as needed on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 PM - $20/meeting)
Watauga County Jury Commission – Compiles the biennial list of jurors in strict compliance with the General Statutes of North Carolina. (Periodically as called - $250 every 2 years)
Watauga County Planning Board – Develops and recommends policies, ordinances, administrative procedures and other means for carrying out plans in a coordinated and efficient manner. (3rd Monday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Commissioners' Board Room at the County Administration Building)
