POSITION OPENING
Watauga County is accepting applications for the Position of EMS Shift Supervisor for Watauga County Emergency Medical Services. An employee in this class organizes and coordinates emergency medical service operations for the County through and with a large number of paid and volunteer emergency medical units, and fire departments throughout the county during their shift and ensures supervision of employees on a twenty-four-hour basis; and performs skilled work at the Paramedic level of certification in operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and performing advanced emergency care including the administration of life sustaining treatment to patients on-site and while in route to hospital. Position is responsible for all duties and responsibilities of a paramedic; supervision of EMS personnel assigned to shift, management of the schedule of duties to be performed during the assigned shift and ensuring that EMS personnel adhere to the medical protocols, standard operating guidelines and other county standards; also responsible for shift disciplinary action, leave requests and timesheets. Position will also review calls reports during shift and address issues concerning the call reports with staff; inspect and identify equipment deficiencies and take appropriate action to return the defective equipment to service, and inspect emergency vehicles used by EMS to ensure the safe operations and efficient use; follow-up on patient care delivered by self and shift employees; maintain and ensure patient, personnel matters and department confidentiality; and successfully complete specialized training programs as deemed pertinent by the EMS Chief. Employee is exposed to the normal hazards of emergency rescue work, including risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Any combination of education, and experience equivalent to Associate degree in a medically related field and experience as an EMT at the paramedic level preferably including supervisory and management experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special requirements for position include valid driver’s license for state of residence, certification by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic and current CPR certification; ACLS, ITLS or PHTLS; PALS, PEPP, or NRP are preferred. County benefit package includes health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. Salary Grade 10, $61,062, not including scheduled overtime. 24-Hour shifts; inclusive of nights, weekends and holidays.
