POSITION OPENING
Watauga County Sanitation Department is accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator I. Position performs intermediate semi-skilled work operating a vehicle in the disposal of solid waste, transfer of refuse, debris and recyclables from collection site, and related work as required. Duties include operating a truck and/or motorized equipment; ensuring proper completion of assigned work and adequate safety precautions; and providing proper equipment maintenance; position may be required to maintain mileage and fuel records, and report violations of sanitation ordinances as necessary. Position requires a general knowledge of the operation and servicing of trucks and heavy motorized equipment; knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; and thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in the operation of a truck and heavy equipment is required. Possession of a valid North Carolina Class B CDL license is preferred. County benefit package includes health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. Salary grade 5, $46,676.
