POSITION OPENING
Watauga County Sanitation Department is accepting applications for the position of Mechanic I. Position Performs intermediate technical work in the installation of parts; maintenance and repair of vehicles, light and heavy-duty trucks, and mobile and stationary equipment. Position is also responsible for assisting in the building, assembling and repair of machines or mechanical components according to requirements; inspecting machines, engines, transmissions, etc.; and running diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues; and related work as apparent or assigned. Position will also fill in at the Transfer Station operating heavy equipment in the loading and removal of refuse. Position requires considerable knowledge in machinery and hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and other systems and their components; aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with type of work assigned; and skill in the use of assigned equipment. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and considerable experience in mechanical repairs and use of work vehicles and heavy equipment.
