WATAUGA COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2006
The Watauga County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at 8:00 A.M. in the Board Room of the Watauga County Courthouse. The purpose of the meeting was to consider the observance of Martin Luther King Day.
PRESENT: Jim Deal, Chairman
William R. Winkler, Vice-Chairman
Keith Honeycutt, Commissioner
David Blust, Commissioner
Winston Kinsey, Commissioner
Robert E. Nelson, Jr., County Manager
Deron Geouque, Assistant County Manager
Chairman Deal called the meeting to order at 8:08 A.M.
Chairman Deal stated that Watauga County should observe Martin Luther King Day, which should be viewed similarly to the celebration of the Fourth of July holiday as days that honor our rights. Chairman Deal felt this was a time to commemorate all the freedoms enjoyed by the citizens of Watauga County.
Commissioner Winkler, seconded by Commissioner Honeycutt, moved to add the observance of Martin Luther King Day to the County’s official holiday schedule.
VOTE: Aye-5
Nay-0
Commissioner Honeycutt, seconded by Commissioner Winkler, moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:22 A.M.
