Senior Games

The North Carolina Senior Games (NCSG) has been active since 1983. With the goal of health promotion and wellness education, the Senior Games has created a program for adults that are 50 years of age and older. The High Country Senior Games serves the following counties: Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancy. The High Country Senior Games is one of the Local Games that helps serve all 100 counties in North Carolina. Qualifiers from the Local Games will move on to State Finals. The Games emphasize the importance of staying active while engaging in friendly competition. This competition is in both sports and the arts. Some of the sports that seniors can partake in include basketball, racquetball and swimming.  SilverArts showcases the creativity of seniors with categories including literary arts, visual arts, performing arts, heritage arts and cheerleaders. There is a sense of community and camaraderie when older adults participate in the Senior Games. Every participant has a unique story to tell; they have the opportunity to share it during the Games.
