Watauga County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of School Resource Officer/Deputy II. This position supports and facilitates the educational process within the Watauga County Schools system by providing a safe and secure environment through building and establishing meaningful relationships with students and staff, and proactively interacting with the school community to ensure the enforcement of North Carolina General Statutes.  Duties include the preservation of public order, protection of life and the prevention, detection or investigation of crimes. The officer will work effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community agencies to support teaching and learning in the schools. The School Resource Officer will patrol district property to protect students, staff, and visitors from physical harm and prevent loss to district property resulting from criminal activity.  Any combination of training and experience including; Basic Law Enforcement Training, Certification as a NC Law Enforcement Officer through NC Sheriff’s Training and Standards, and the ability to complete or completion of School Resource Officer Training and Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of law enforcement experience is required.  County benefit package includes health insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
